How to Choose the Right Garden Furniture for Your Climate

If we’re honest, the UK doesn’t have the best weather in the world. It rains quite often, and in some areas, the winters are icily cold. This doesn’t mean that your garden needs to be a space you can only enjoy in the summer months. All you need to do is draw up a plan to make the area a haven you can enjoy all year round.

One of the trendiest design movements of late is to extend your home outdoors. Some families build decks, others install free-standing summer houses, others add sunrooms or conservatories. The possibilities are endless and affordable.

Temperature Control

Basking in the warm summer sunshine is always a treat. If it gets too hot, you can simply open a window or a door, allowing the breeze to cool you down. Warming up in winter is often trickier, especially if you don’t have an enclosed space. Installing roll-up canvas sidewalls for your deck is a great solution if you want to spend time outdoors in the colder months. It’s even cosier if you have a built-in fireplace and a few flames dancing inside it.

Comfort

If you’re going to be spending a significant amount of time in your green space, you’re going to want it to be comfortable. There are many furniture and décor items available both in stores and online that cater to many design trends. Garden furniture must be lightweight, sturdy, and easy to maintain. Wicker furniture is always an excellent choice because it meets all these criteria, and it is a sustainable resource. Depending on the size of your space, you might want a coffee table and some lounge chairs, or if the space is more intimate, rattan corner dining sets may be more suitable. Add a few potted plants and you’re all set.

Some Shade

A few past summers have brought with them heatwaves. Some people prefer being outdoors, suntanning in the privacy of their gardens rather than cooped up inside. Excessive exposure to the UVA and UVB rays is dangerous and can cause skin cancer. Invest in a high-quality canvas umbrella to offer shade during the hottest hours of the day. You can even have one custom made to match with your loose furnishings such as cushions.

Plants

Keep your garden in bloom throughout the year by planting evergreen varieties, such as lavender, bull bay, bergenias, and a winter champion, the Swiss cheese plant (or as it is more commonly known, the delicious monster). Having colourful plants throughout the year will inspire you to spend more time in your yard, regardless of the weather. It will also attract insects and birds to your garden which you can enjoy watching while they perform an integral task: pollination.

Gearing your garden to be a space to enjoy irrespective of the Mercury outside is sure to be a great project for both individuals and families alike.
